Kickboxing

A Short History of Kickboxing

Kickboxing as a combat sport appeared in the mid-1960s and developed in parallel in Japan and the USA, which is the reason why there are two variants: Japanese and American.

Japanese kickboxing was created by combining Muay Thai and Karate techniques. In the second half of the 1960s, Karate Kyokushinkai fighter Osamu Noguchi, inspired by the fights he saw in Thailand, wanted to instill Muay Thai in Japan, and opened the first kickboxing school. Initially, punches, kicks, and strikes with knees and elbows were allowed, but later it was decided to forbid the latter due to the cuts that it caused, which often led to stops in the middle of a fight, which affected its entertainment.

American kickboxing developed almost simultaneously with Japanese kickboxing. In the mid 1960s, American karate fighters, frustrated by the rules of combat that dictated them to hit with limited force, created a system where it was possible with full force and compete in more realistic situations. This led to the emergence of the so-called “full contact karate”, where punches and kicks were allowed with full force, and the knockout of the opponent was the desired way to end a fight.

History

The specifics and benefits of the kickboxing section

Kickboxing workouts include a variety of exercises to develop punching techniques with arms and legs. The starting position of a fighter looks almost the same as in boxing; the legs are slightly bent at the knees, one arm is slightly extended forward, and the other is at the chin to protect it against the opponent’s blows. Rookie students practice striking techniques on sports equipment or in front of a mirror, more advanced ones in sparring training.

Thanks to regular training, the body’s performance increases, and muscle strength and coordination develops. Kickboxing puts more emphasis on speed, precision and technique rather than on striking power. For this reason, kickboxing is ideal for people of all sizes, from those who want to do it professionally and those who need basic self-defense skills. In addition, workouts include intense cardio exercises that can help you to lose weight, better define the muscles, and develop endurance.

Kickboxing allows you to get in good physical shape and strengthen your morale, which will help you to feel confident not only in the ring, but outside of it too.
