Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art that allows you to cope with an opponent superior in weight and size not by using strength, but by using correct positioning and technique. This is one of the reasons why BJJ is popular not only as a sports discipline, but as a self-defense system as well.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

A Short History of Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu appeared in the middle of the 16th century, but acquired its current form in the early 20th century. This happened when the Japanese martial artist Maeda Mitsue arrived in Brazil. He was expelled from the judo community in Japan for taking part in fights for money. One of Mitsue’s first students was Gastan Gracie, who already had experience in wrestling and also took part in fierce street fighting. Having studied judo, he formed a new technique, which was later adopted by his fellow artists and popularized in the USA, after which it began to be actively used in MMA.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Training at the PM Fight Academy

It is believed that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is one of the most effective hand-to-hand combat techniques. Although BJJ does not use direct strikes, it is very good at incapacitating the opponent, focusing primarily on the fight. The purpose of the battle is to knock the enemy down and incapacitate him.

History

The effectiveness of Jiu-Jitsu techniques can be learned and used in amateur and professional performances in BJJ or mixed martial arts, as well as for self-defense. The PM Fight Academy has all the conditions for practicing martial arts: there are punching bags, pears, wall cushions, gym equipment and an MMA area with soft flooring, which is ideal for practicing throws and jiu-jitsu striking techniques.

BJJ classes are led by a qualified trainer who will help you to identify your strengths and weaknesses, develop your physical capabilities and achieve your goals at each workout. Our BJJ coach, Alexander Matviychuk, is a 4-time Ukrainian champion and a silver medalist of the European Jiu-Jitsu Championship. Training under the supervision of a trainer will allow you to learn the BJJ techniques, avoiding many mistakes.

The PM Fight Academy is focused on the availability of martial arts classes, so you can practice both individually with a trainer, in group training, or on your own at any time by purchasing a global or smart subscription. With individual lessons, the coach will select a training program based on your physical fitness, objectives and training expectations. He will monitor the correct execution of the exercises, and immediately point out and correct mistakes.

Brazilian jiu-jitsu is more versatile than judo, karate, or other martial arts systems because it has fewer prohibitions, so it is easier to use in a direct confrontation with an opponent. BJJ is recommended for anyone wishing to learn how to effectively defend against a larger opponent, by skillfully knocking him down and blocking his movements.
