Grappling is a relatively new type of martial art, which combines different techniques of wrestling disciplines and an emphasis on the use of painful and suffocating techniques. Thanks to this, grappling has become especially popular in MMA and is increasingly being chosen for self-defense, as it allows you to defeat the opponent, even if he is superior in weight and size.

What is grappling?

Grappling is a system of wrestling techniques, which is characterized by short throws, grabs and a complete absence of strikes. It differs from other martial disciplines in the fact that victory does not depend on the use of striking or throwing techniques, as in boxing or judo, but through the use of strangulation or painful techniques that force the opponent to surrender. Grappling combines the following types of martial arts:

  • Brazilian jiu-jitsu
  • Judo
  • Sambo
  • Fight

Grappling is especially effective when facing an opponent who uses a striking technique, since most of the maneuvers are based on defending against a hit by taking the opponent to the ground.

Grappling at the PM Fight Academy

Grappling training at the PM Fight Academy can be performed by people with different levels of physical and technical training, so when you come to the gym, you will not have to “catch up” or spar against an experienced opponent. The trainer will select exercises individually and correct mistakes during their implementation. He will also monitor the physical condition and will help to deal with the difficulties that may appear when learning grappling techniques. Our coach, Igor Korchukov, is a 10-time world champion, and 8-time European champion and a 33-time Ukrainian champion in different types of martial arts.

The PM Fight Academy gym is equipped with everything you need for grappling training. There is an MMA area with soft flooring, where the main part of the classes take place, but you can also practice striking techniques on different punching bags, pears, and wall pillows. Also there are treadmills, exercise bikes and other sports equipment for general fitness at your disposal. Choose your subscription. It can be the global or smart ones, and do group workouts at a convenient time for you.

  1. Physical development. Working on the ground requires a lot of muscle strength, so after a few weeks of training, you will notice that you have become stronger, and your body is muscular and fit.
  2. Development of speed and coordination. Grappling teaches you how to strike and how to fall safely. Already in the first training session, you will learn a set of exercises that will teach you how to fall safely, and use the position on the ground to dominate your opponent.
  3. Getting self-defense skills. Regular training will allow you to effectively defend against a surprise attack on the street, even from an opponent superior in weight and size.
